My group and I were working on a presentation! It was about water pollution! We presented in front of 2nd graders! In the presentation we had a Scratch game, a water model, and a sorting game! I was in charge of the Scratch game. You had to catch the trash before it hit the bottom of the lake! The person with the highest score won! The water model showed the kids what happens if you put chemicals in your yard like pesticides or drop motor oil. In the sorting game you had to sort the types of trash like plastic, metal, and many more! It was so much fun! I hope we can do it again!

Puerto Rico Fun!

PUERTO RICO WAS SO FUN! I loved the Manatee Rehabilitation Center! I got to feed a baby manatee and an adult manatee! It was so cool! I would love to work there. My favorite part of the Manatee Rehabilitation Center was touching the manatee! The manatee's skin felt like an elephant's skin. I learned that manatees are endangered in Puerto Rico but not in Florida. On our Puerto Rico trip, I also liked Palomino Island! It was so fun! The water was clear! I went snorkeling with some of my classmates! The reef was so cool, and I saw sea urchins and different kinds of fish! When we were at the island, I saw a big shell! When I went to get the shell a big crab came out! So I did not keep it. I really wanted the shell though. My favorite part of the trip, by far, was the Guayama school! The students were so nice! I made some very good friends! My favorite class was Science. I loved the game we played! I learned so much! I hope I can visit the school again!

I CAN'T BELEVE ON SUNDAY, APRIL 23 WE ARE GOING TO PUERTO RICO! I am so exited! We are going to get to help injured manatees, go to a private school, and visit the El Yunque tropical rainforest this week! I think my favorite thing in Puerto Rico is going to be the El Yunque tropical rainforest. I love the little coquis (little frogs)! I am also very excited to see the waterfalls and the different kinds of trees and plants. I am also very excited to use some of my Spanish I have been practicing at the school! I can't wait to meet the students! The only thing I can wait for is the plane ride. I do not like planes. But, I can wait to look out the widow! When we get to Puerto Rico we are also going to build a little shelter! I can't wait! I have always wanted to build a shelter! Puerto Rico here I come!

Over Spring Break my family when to the Palo Duro Canyon in Texas. It was so much fun! We got to hike in the canyon. I took so many pictures of the scenery and animals. The rocks were very pretty in the canyon and they were a dark rusty red color. We went in a little cave in the Palo Duro Canyon wall. the cave was very dark and had large rocks in it. It was cold in the cave. We climbed to the top of the cave. It was so amazing! After we hiked in the Palo Duro Canyon, we went to a restaurant. It was really fun! After the restaurant we when home. It was a long drive to get home. I hope we will go back soon!

Lets Build A Boat!

We are going to make a boat! Our school is entering a boat making challenge. You can only use duct tape and cardboard! You also have to make your boat look like the USS Tulsa ship! My group and I are starting off with making oars. We are going to use thick cardboard rolls for the handle of the oar; we are going to use 2 layers of thick cardboard for the blade (end of oar) and a few layers of duct tape so it does not get wet. When we start our boat, we are going to use 3/2 layers of cardboard and a few layers of duct tape to it does not get wet and sink. My group and I are very excited to make the boat! When we are done with our boat and oars, we are going to race against other boats in a huge pool! I can't wait! Here is the boat racing link: http://tulsastem.org/cardboard-regatta/

HOVERCRAFT!

We built a hovercraft!!! It was so much fun!! All we used to make it was two rolls of duct tape, one 8 foot by 4 foot by 1/2-inch piece of plywood, one large shower curtain, staples and a staple gun, one plastic lid, two leaf blowers, and tools to cut the wood. First, we cut the plywood in half. Next, we cut the plywood into a circle with a diameter of 3 feet 8-inches. Then we cut two holes two feet apart for the leaf blowers. After that we cut the shower curtain to fit the hovercraft, and then stapled it to the bottom of the hovercraft. Then we cut 6 holes on the bottom of the curtain so the air can escape. After that we put the plastic lid on the bottom with staples so we could push the hovercraft around. We taped the bottom of the shower curtain with duct tape so it would not pop. The hovercraft floats because the leaf blowers are blowing air into the shower curtain creating a pocket of air to ride on. The air leaves through the holes in the shower curtain. Next time we make a hovercraft we are going to use a smaller lid so we can ride smoother without it popping. We will also only use one leaf blower so it is easier to ride. We all got to ride it! It was soooooooo much fun!! Next time we make a hovercraft we will use a smaller lid so it will glide better. The best part was riding it! Next time we also might only use 1 leaf blower so it is easier to hold.

Let's Build A Windturbine!

Monday...We started our wind turbine. My partner and I started our blade design. We decided to use cardboard as our blade's material. Tuesday... My partner and I started to draw our blades on our journal. Our design was a rectangle sideways, but when we tested it did not work at all!!!! So it was back to the drawing board! Wednesday... We made a better design still using cardboard. It was a rectangle that was a little bit slanted to catch the wind. We tested the blades, and they WORKED! It caught a lot of air, but it didn't generate much electricity, so we made a second pair.

We learned that wind turbines need an angle, so it can make energy. After the wind turbine farm, we started to drive to the Wichita Mountains. When we got to the wildlife preserve we saw prairie dogs, buffalo, longhorns, and much more! We visited the Parallel Forest too. After the wildlife preserve, we when to Mount Scott. We looked at all the big boulders on the mountain. Friday.... On Friday we went to the OKC Memorial. I put a teddy bear on the fence for the little kids who were in the building that exploded. I learned Timothy McVeigh made the bomb and Terry Nichols helped. It was sad at the memorial, but I learned a lot. After the memorial we headed home.

Tulsa Roller Coaster Contest Monday...We were so excited! This week was the Tulsa Roller Coaster contest! We could not wait! All though it was exciting, it was very hard too. We chose our the theme to be jungle related. So my team and I sprayed our cereal box brown for trees, and we painted vines on it. Then we cut the box to three sections and taped them to the poster board. Then we cut a piece of paper for track, but we saw that the cereal box was not working! So we had to restart on the roller coaster. Tuesday... We restarted on our  roller coaster and cut the cereal box better this time! So we taped the parts of the cereal box down to the board and did it right this time! Then we taped track to the box. It was not easy, but we got it done. Wednesday... We were so nervous about the roller coaster because it was not working! So we had to restart on almost everything, THE DAY BEFORE THE CONTEST! So we did a lot of the roller coaster and track so it would work better. Then we tested it to see if it was working. And it worked perfectly! Thursday... We went to the Tulsa State Fair Roller Coaster contest, and when we walked in we saw so many roller coasters! It would be hard to get in the top five! We gave them our roller coaster called The Jungle Rumble. After we gave the roller coaster we looked at the different booths they had there. There was a sea turtle booth,a coding booth, and many more! Then we ate lunch; after lunch it was almost time for the announcement of who won! They said the team that won third is..... Jungle Rumble!!!!!!!! We won third place out of 130 different teams! We won one hundred dollars for our school! It was a great day at OSIEL!
