Solar Ovens And Fry Ditch Creek
|
|
Tuesday.. We started building a solar oven out of anything we wanted to use, and it was a lot of fun! We were building the solar oven out of a box, tin foil, and plastic wrap.
Wednesday.. We started to test our solar ovens, we had to melt a crayon, chocolate, caramel, and cheese! My team and I put the cheese, chocolate, crayon, and caramel in our solar oven, hoping it would work! We waited a while in the hot sun for the crayon to melt! All are other stuff melted but not our crayon!!!! Then we went inside to cool off, and when we went back outside noticed one of the groups thermometers busted!!! It was so funny that one of the group's thermometers busted; luckily it was not mercury! Thursday.. We went to Fry Ditch Creek for a field trip! We were going to make sure the water was safe for the fish and water life in it! We had to put on waders if we wanted to get in the water and help. So we put on our waders and got in the water
The were mussels and fish in the water; it was so cool! We got water samples and put them in jars. The we started to learn about all the different animals in the creek like Mosquito Fish, Crawfish , Zebra Mussels, and many more! Then we brought the water samples back to test them; it was not easy. At the end of the day we helped clean up. It was a great day at OSIEL.

The oven project sounds very cool! Did any of the teams get the crayon to melt? And the most important question, did you get to eat the melted chocolate, cheese and caramel? Haha.
