First Week Of School!

School last week! I had a great time! We came up with our goals for the year and learned about the Boston Tea Party. This year I came up with three goals. They are: Think positively, become a better soccer player, and become better at math. I can achieve these by practicing and thinking positively. I hope that this year at OSIEL will be the same (or better) then last year!

Solar Eclipse Fun

This week went to see the total solar eclipse! It was so very interesting. When we got to the location we were going to watch it, it already started! The moon was covering part of the sun! For the eclipse, you have to wear a certain kind of glasses or you will hurt your eyes. So, we wore our glasses and watched the solar eclipse. We had to wait about 30 minutes for the moon to cover the sun. It was cloudy outside, so sometimes you could not see the sun. The temperature outside dropped because of the sun being blocked by the moon, so it was nice outside. It also got darker; the crickets started to make noises. They were very loud! A few minutes before the total eclipse, the clouds covered the sun and moon, so we could not see the total eclipse! It was still fun although we could not see the total eclipse.

Roller Coaster Competition

This week, we finished our roller coaster! It took some time, but we finished it. Our theme was Route 66. Before we left to go to the expo, we tested it. The roller coaster went for about 30 seconds! It worked pretty well. When we arrived at the expo, there were many different kinds of marble roller coasters; there were also many people. We turned our roller coasters in when we arrived. After we got there, we were split in to groups so we could look at the booths around the expo. There were many different types of booths, such as robotic, science, water pollution, and there was a sports booth! Outside there was a ambulance and a fire truck. After we visited some of the booths, we ate lunch. Then, we looked at a few more booths till the winners were announced. A little bit later, they announced who won. Sadly no one from our school won, but we got to see our results. Our roller coaster got 24 out of 25 on creativity, a 24 out of 25 on looks, and a 0 on time! It stopped during the ride! After we looked at our results it was time to go. We had a great time at the expo!

Smoothie fun!

Recently, we have been working on a healthy smoothie. We learned about nutritious fruits and vegetables. Then, my group and chose different fruits and vegetables that we would use after we finished researching. We decided to use lemons and oranges because they are citrus, so they are high in vitamin C. We also used apples because they have many benefits like improving digestion. Then we used spinach because it has iron, zinc and calcium. We added almond milk to make it smooth. After we blended it up, we tested it. It tasted good. Our smoothie was a success!

Writing Class

Lately we have been working on writing our own book. My book Is called "A Turn Of Events." Here is my synopsis: New school, new people, new problems. Mary Jane has never been good at making friends, but this year is different. She meets new people like Noah, Lucy, and Kya. Her life was going great! Then, on Sunday, May 22, disaster strikes in the form of a mile-long vortex of wind and debris hitting her hometown Joplin. When she heard the storm was coming, she ran down to the basement with her friends, feeling as if she forgot something. She pushed that thought aside, her life, as well as her friends lives, were on the line. They hid in the corner so close together it was hard to breathe. The house shook and glass in the windows broke, Then, it subsided. She came back to reality, she was drenched in water along with her friends. Then terror ran over her heart, she stopped breathing, she remembered what she had forgotten. Something very important, but very small.

I am very excited to finish my book! So far I have three chapters completed. I will have a few more done soon. My book will have about 10 chapters, maybe more. I really enjoy writing now.
